Aurora were sighted to the north during the night of 19-20 August 2009.  Zoltan Kenwell was out aurora hunting again and managed to capture some more fantastic images!

The AuroraWatch website recorded weak activity on 19 August, pushing the possibility of seeing Aurora into the yellow.  This wasn't enough to trigger a yellow level alert however (the activity was located further north and our algorithm is optimised for overhead activity).

Photo's of last nights aurora!!!  Finally, some magnetic activity after so much silence!  Someone who was in the right place at the right time was Zoltan Kenwell, who managed to capture some AMAZING images from around midnight to 4:30am.  Starting from Edmonton, and using satellite imagery to determine where the clear skies were, he travelled west to the Drayton Valley region stopping at various places to capture his images, before finally getting home at 5:30am!  That's dedication!

One of the great challenges of Aurora watching is capturing the event on film (or memory card!!).  Some of our users seem to have a talent for this however and have sent us links to their image galleries.  These can be found under Photo Links in the left hand menu.
